The Important Economic News Calendar: September 23 - September 27, 2019

September 23, 2019, 6:13 AM Paul Rejczak

Starting this week, we will publish the weekly economic news calendar. It will be released on Monday morning and will include the key news releases broken down into different markets for the convenience of readers. So let's take a look at the possible market-moving events in the coming week.

This week's economic news will include speeches from some of the main Central Banks Governors (ECB, BOJ, BOE and RBA), Tuesday's U.S. Consumer Confidence number data and Thursday's U.S. final GDP number for the second quarter of the year. There will also be some less important but still potentially market-moving events like Wednesday's Crude Oil Inventories announcement, Friday's U.S. Personal Spending and Durable Goods Orders releases.

  • We will see a handful of Central Banks' Governors speeches in the coming days: the ECB's Mario Draghi will speak on Monday and then on Thursday again, the BOJ Governor Kuroda and the RBA Governor Lowe will speak on Tuesday, and the BOE Governor Carney will speak on Thursday.
  • The U.S. Consumer Confidence number will be released on Tuesday, and then on Thursday we will await the final GDP number for the previous quarter. Friday's Personal Spending and Durable Goods Orders are also worth mentioning.
  • This week's Wednesday's Crude Oil Inventories number may show an impact of the last Saturday's aerial strike on Saudi Arabian oil field. The price of oil remains elevated since that event took place.

You will find this week's the key news releases below (EST time zone). For your convenience, we broken them down per market to which they are particularly important, so that you know what to pay extra attention to, if you have or plan to have positions in one of them. Moreover, we put the particularly important news in bold. This kind of news is what is more likely to trigger volatile movements. The news that are not in bold usually don't result in bigger intraday moves, so unless one is engaging in a particularly active form of day trading, it might be best to focus on the news that we put in bold. Of course, you are free to use the below indications as you see fit. As far as we are concerned, we are usually not engaging in any day trading during days with "bold" events on a given market. However, in case of more medium-term trades, we usually choose to be aware of the increased intraday volatility, but not change the currently opened position.
